Handmade in Durham. Pale oval wood beads for the Hail Marys, dark wood for the Our Fathers, knotted onto sand-coloured paracord, with the large St Benedict crucifix — the one with the medal set into the centre of the cross, the oldest prayer of protection in the Church cast into something you can hold.
It’s one of the bigger ones I make. The crucifix is 8cm, and you know it’s in your pocket.
There’s no centre medal. The beads are tied with a finger’s width of give rather than pulled tight, so they slide along the cord and hold your place when you put it down mid-decade. It’s made to be used, not kept in a drawer.
This is a one-off. There’s one, it’s this one, and when it’s gone the next one will be a bit different.
Oval wood beads, pale (Hail Marys) and dark (Our Fathers), sand paracord. Large St Benedict crucifix, 8 × 4.5cm, brass-finish, made in Italy. Fourteen knots, no centre medal. Posted from Durham.
