About Sloanes Media
Sloanes Media is a one-person publishing house in Durham. It puts out two kinds of book: road trip guides for campervans and motorhomes, and Catholic books on prayer and pilgrimage. I write both.
THE ROAD TRIPS
I'm Chris. My wife and I spend a great deal of our time on the road, and in the last few years alone we've covered more than 100,000 miles and spent hundreds of nights out, most of them off-grid. We've travelled in a VW Transporter, then a medium wheelbase van, and now a full motorhome — so the guides are built around how different vehicles actually behave, not around how a car behaves.
We didn't start out knowing what we were doing. Our first trips were a mix of overthinking, worrying about everything, and getting things wrong. We've parked in terrible places. We've taken roads we shouldn't have. We've over-planned some trips and under-planned others.
That's exactly why the guides exist.
AND THE OTHER HALF
People ask why one small publisher puts out a guide to the NC500 and a book about the rosary.
The honest answer is that I wrote both, and they came out of the same few years. Somewhere around forty I sold the business I'd built and started writing instead, which was not a plan so much as a leap I didn't see coming. A lot of the time since has been spent on the road, and a lot of that was quiet. Some of it turned into route notes. Some of it turned into something else.
I'm not going to claim the two lists are secretly the same thing. A road trip guide is a practical object — it saves you a fortnight of research and stops you parking somewhere you shouldn't. The Catholic books are for a different kind of journey and I'd never pretend that one is easy. What they have in common is that I only write about things I've actually done, and I don't tidy up the parts that were hard.
HOW THESE GUIDES ARE DIFFERENT
These aren't generic travel guides. They're built around how motorhome and campervan trips actually work — realistic driving days, easy stopovers, and routes that flow without constant decisions.
• Routes that flow naturally without backtracking
• Realistic driving distances for larger vehicles
• Overnight stops built into the journey
• No complicated planning required
• Designed specifically for campervans and motorhomes
• Built from real trips, not desk research
WHO THESE GUIDES ARE FOR
They're for travellers who want a trip that just works. Especially if you're visiting Scotland, Norway or Denmark for the first time, you travel in a campervan or motorhome, you're unsure about route planning, or you'd rather not spend weeks researching.
You're not figuring it out as you go. You're following a route that already works.
These guides remove the overthinking, the second guessing, and the constant planning.
Just follow the route, stop where it makes sense, and enjoy the trip.
That’s it.
I also share parts of our trips, route planning, and real-world travel on YouTube.
It’s the same approach as the guides — simple routes, real travel, and no overcomplication.
