Handmade in Durham. Oval Italian olive wood beads on sand-coloured paracord, with the Good Shepherd crucifix — the cross Pope Francis wore, the shepherd carrying the one sheep that wandered off.
Olive wood is the quiet one. No two beads are the same grain, and it darkens a little with handling, so the one you pray with for a year isn’t quite the one that arrived.
There’s no centre medal. The beads are tied with a finger’s width of give rather than pulled tight, so they slide along the cord and hold your place when you put it down mid-decade. It’s made to be used, not kept in a drawer.
This is a one-off. There’s one, it’s this one, and when it’s gone the next one will be a bit different.
